During the 2026 Hampton's international film festival, Ron Howard said this when asked about How The Grinch Stole Christmas 2, "And literally about, I don’t know, a year ago, just an idea popped into my head — which I’m not going to tell you. But I got excited about it and I began to think it through." This likely means that How The Grinch Stole Christmas 2 is not a direct adaptation of How The Grinch Lost Christmas, or Halloween is Grinch Night, but an entirely new idea.
